What Is Venetian fencing?

Venetian fence panels are made from horizontal battens or slats that have evenly spaced gaps between. They are designed to give a more contemporary look to your garden than traditional fencing. Having a gap between each batten creates subtle shadow lines that enhance the  flowing horizontal design of the panels.

The Warm Colour of Our Redwood

Our Venetian fence panels are made from pressure treated Scandinavian Redwood, finished in an attractive warm redwood colour during the treatment process. This means your fencing arrives fully treated and ready to install, with no immediate staining or additional treatment required.

Unlike many treated fence panels that have a harsh green tint, our Redwood has a warm translucent finish that allows the natural wood grain and subtle tonal variation of each batten to remain visible. The result is a far more attractive and premium-looking fence from day one.

Finest Grade Redwood – A Cut Above The Rest

Most fence panels on the market are made from 5th-grade timber, which is full of knots and imperfections. It’s always worth checking the grade of wood used before you buy, as the quality makes a big difference to both the look and the lifespan of your fence. We only use premium timber, and the difference is clear to see across our entire range. After all, not all battens are the same.

The Redwood battens used to make Venetian fencing are machined from the finest Scandinavian Redwood sideboards. This is the highest quality grade available. It means that the timber has few knots and has minimal surface imperfections. The colour of our battens is also very attractive unlike most green treated battens that you will find in abundance online. This makes our Venetian fencing an excellent alternative to Cedar, offering a premium contemporary slatted fence at a far more affordable price.

What gap size should I choose?

We offer our Venetian fence panels with 7mm, 12mm and 20mm gaps between the battens. The image below shows the three options side by side. The right choice depends on the balance of privacy, light and airflow you are looking to achieve.

Panels with 7mm gaps

The 7mm gap is the most popular option as it offers an excellent balance between privacy and airflow. From a normal viewing distance it is difficult to see much through the fence, making it ideal for boundary fencing and gardens where privacy is important.

Panels with 12mm gaps

The 12mm gap allows more light and airflow to pass through the fence while still having a good level of screening. It is often chosen by customers who want a slightly lighter and more open appearance.

Panels with 20mm gaps

The 20mm gap has the most open and airy appearance. It allows the greatest amount of light and airflow through the fence and is ideal for feature areas in contemporary garden designs. It can also work well for supporting climbing plants.

Easy to assemble 3-part fencing System

Venetian fencing is part of our Cequence fencing system which consists of a slatted fence panel, a profiled post and a capping rail. The three elements go together to create a seamless fence with no visible posts. Our fence posts and capping page has a range of posts and capping rails that match our Venetian panels perfectly.

These contemporary slatted fence panels are sold in handy 60cm and 90cm high sections that can be stacked above each other to achieve your desired fence height. If your desired fencing height is different you can easily trim off battens as required. The join between stacked Venetian panels is invisible so it will look like a single panel once installed.

Venetian Fencing FAQ

Can you see through the gaps?

We offer three gap sizes 7mm, 12mm and 20mm – the 7mm gap gives excellent privacy but not complete privacy. With your face close to the fence you can look through the small gaps. If viewed from afar the fencing offers good overall privacy. If the panels are clad over an existing fence then the fence behind will not be visible through the gaps.

Does the colour fade?

The Redwood colour will fade over time especially in bright sunlight areas. This is the same for all timber fencing. You can apply a UV protector to prevent the fencing from fading this acts as a barrier to sunlight that causes the wood to fade. Think of it as sun cream for fences. If left to naturally age it will over a number of years fade to a modern silver grey.

Is Venetian fencing easy to fit?

Fitting Venetian fencing is not any harder than a standard fence. If you have good DIY skills and are confident the you should be able to do it. Why are the posts not visible?

Our Venetian fencing is designed to be continuous. The panels fit closely together for a horizontal slatted look. Our Cequence fencing system makes creating contemporary slatted style fencing a quick and easy task. Can you use these panels with standard concrete slotted or wooden posts?

Yes! we can make these panels work with standard timber posts or slotted concrete posts, you just need to tell our team and we will do the rest! You can also clad over your existing fence so those posts are not visible.

Do you do bespoke width panels?

You can buy a width adjustment kit for Venetian panels on our website. This allows you to easily change the width of your panels to suit your requirements. We also now offer our Extended Venetian fence panels in 2.085m and 2.385m widths for areas where a wider panel is needed.

How long are the panels Guaranteed for?

Our Venetian Fence panels are Guaranteed for 15 years. They are made from pressure treated Redwood and stainless steel fixings.

Where do you deliver to?

We offer a Van delivery service in Kent, London and surrounding counties. We cover the rest of mainland UK with a pallet delivery service.
For delivery to Ireland and Channel Islands we ask that you contact us for a delivery quotation.

Where does Redwood come from?

Our Redwood is sourced from the Scandinavian mountains in slow-growing forests, where the colder climate produces denser timber, offering greater stability and a more attractive woodgrain.

Scandinavian Redwood grows in Sweden, Finland and Norway. We buy from FSC certified supplier who is a member of the timber trade association. The wood comes from well managed woodlands where replanting is always part of the process.
